New Emerson poll shows this is a three-way race between a MAGA Republican, a corporate Democrat, and Steyer, the progressive change candidate

SAN FRANCISCO — The new Emerson poll out this morning made clear that the race has tightened into a three-way race — and in the closing days as voters are filling out their ballots, Steyer has the momentum. The Los Angeles Times front page today highlighted:

“A Becerra-Steyer race in November? It’s possible,” wrote Anita Chabria for the Los Angeles Times today.

Local TV coverage also echoed this narrative: KTLA said “this race comes down to 3 frontrunners” and KQED said “Growing Chance of 2 Democrats Advancing.” NBC LA captured, “Becerra, Steyer lead in new CA governor's race poll.”

This is no surprise. We’ve been saying for weeks that this race is between three viable candidates: Trump’s hand-picked Republican candidate, a corporate Democrat backed by Chevron, Meta, Uber, and the utility companies, and Tom Steyer — the progressive changemaker focused on bringing down costs and taking on the status quo. 

“There is no threat of a Republican lockout, so Democrats must vote with their values.” said Steyer for Governor campaign manager Heather Heargraves. “This race is becoming a choice between corporations protecting their bottom line and Californians trying to afford to live here.”
