The Race For Governor is Down to 3 Candidates, and the Contrast Couldn’t Be Clearer
CALIFORNIA –— Steyer for Governor campaign manager Heather Hargreaves released the following statement on the UC Berkeley’s Institute of Governmental Studies poll that found Steyer polling neck-and-neck for a spot in the top two:
“This poll makes two things clear: three candidates are in contention, and it's a tight race. There is no risk of two Republicans advancing to the general election, so voters face a clear choice about California's future: Do they want a continuation of the status quo's high prices and corporate-controlled politics? Or do they want single-payer healthcare, homes they can afford, and lower utility costs? Tom Steyer represents the change Californians are demanding.”
Poll director Mark DiCamillo noted “it remains unclear which candidates will finish in first and second place” and “low voter turnout thus far makes predicting the outcome especially difficult.”
The IGS poll found Steyer surging from 10% to 19% since March and mirrors other recent public and private surveys finding Steyer’s growing strength among voters frustrated with Sacramento dysfunction and looking for a candidate focused on affordability, housing, jobs, and corruption reform.
