PG&E Spends Millions Against Steyer, Trump Attacks Online
SAN FRANCISCO – This morning, President Trump took to Truth Social to throw a fit about Democratic gubernatorial candidate Tom Steyer’s status as the clear frontrunner in the California gubernatorial race. He decried Fox News for “putting [Steyer] ‘into play’” and demanded better coverage for Republicans.
“President Trump’s pointless war in Iran has made everything more expensive for Californians,” Tom Steyer said. “But instead of working to bring prices down, he’s throwing a fit over Fox News programming. Californians see right through this, and they deserve better. Billionaires like Trump and corporations like PG&E don’t want me to win because they know that when I do, their days of ripping off working Californians are over. They can come after me all they want, but I’ll never stop fighting for working people.”
Trump’s attack comes on the heels of right-wing outrage over Steyer’s plans to hold ICE agents legally accountable for criminal conduct — to which Elon Musk replied “Wow” — and PG&E is quietly pouring millions into an anti-Steyer independent expenditure, under the name “Californians for Resilient and Affordable Energy.”
“Unfortunately for Trump, ‘into play’ is a massive understatement: Recent polling shows that Steyer is the lead candidate in a crowded field, and Trump’s tantrum proves he knows it,” Steyer for Governor spokesperson Kevin Liao said. “If elected, Steyer has promised to close corporate tax loopholes that directly benefit Trump and his billionaire allies.”
