Progressive Candidate for Governor Secures Backing of Prominent Advocacy Group
SAN FRANCISCO – Today, Courage California, the state’s largest statewide multi-issue progressive organization, announced its endorsement of Tom Steyer for Governor of California, adding to a recent wave of endorsers who recognize Steyer as the leading progressive candidate in the race. Courage California’s 1.4 million members are dedicated to advancing a progressive vision for California by holding elected officials accountable, empowering communities organizing for change, and educating voters about progressive candidates and causes. Recent polls show Steyer leading a crowded field in advance of California’s June primary.
"Courage California is excited to endorse Tom Steyer as the candidate for Governor of California,” Irene Kao, Executive Director of Courage California said. “He is the candidate with progressive values, policy depth, and commitment to governing alongside communities to lead meaningful change. Steyer’s vision for single-payer healthcare, affordable housing for all, abolishing ICE, and corporate accountability and taxation demonstrates his commitment to fighting for all Californians with conviction and standing up to the monied special interests that have blocked progress in the state."
“Courage California understands that where California goes, the nation follows,” Tom Steyer said. “This is a moment that demands unflinchingly progressive leadership — and organizations who will hold leaders to their commitments. For years, Courage California has held leaders accountable, built essential statewide coalitions, and advocated for a California that truly puts people first. I’m honored to have their endorsement, and I look forward to working with them to achieve structural change.”
Steyer is running on a progressive platform of lowering costs for Californians by closing tax loopholes for corporations and billionaires, achieving single-payer health care, and breaking up utility monopolies. Courage California joins a long list of elected officials, grassroots organizers, and unions who stand with Steyer. See the full list of endorsers here.
