New Mystery Group Bankrolls $8 Million Attack Campaign
SAN FRANCISCO – As new polling shows Tom Steyer the clear leader in the California governor’s race, a shadowy new outside group is pouring $8 million to oppose his campaign.
The group called Californians for Resilient and Affordable Energy is a “previously unknown group that has not yet disclosed its donors,” according to California elections analyst Rob Pyers.
“Special interests have already spent millions to attack Tom Steyer with outright lies. Now, they’re doubling down — and hiding who’s paying for it,” said Kevin Liao, Steyer campaign spokesperson. “They're doing it because Tom Steyer is the only candidate who will shake up Sacramento, take on corporations like Big Oil that are ripping off Californians, and actually lower costs for working families.”
Steyer is committed to lowering costs for working Californians by building one million homes, breaking up utility monopoly power to lower electric bills, delivering single-payer health care, and closing tax loopholes for corporations and billionaires.
