Vice-Chair of the California Legislative Women’s Caucus Throws Support Behind Progressive Candidate
SAN FRANCISCO– Today, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Tom Steyer received the endorsement of Senator Caroline Menjivar, a respected leader and Vice-Chair of the California Legislative Women’s Caucus, signaling strong support from progressive voices across the state.
“Throughout his time in public service, Tom Steyer has consistently stood up for people — taking on powerful, out-of-state corporate interests and delivering real results for Californians,” Menjivar said. “At a time when corporations are getting richer while families are losing access to health care, working more than one job to survive and living in fear of ICE raids, the stakes could not be higher. These issues are not abstract and we need a leader who will center people first. California needs a governor who will stand firm, fight back, and protect every community. Tom Steyer is that leader, and he is exactly who we need as our next governor.”
“Senator Caroline Menjivar embodies the California dream,” Steyer said. “As a daughter of Salvadoran immigrants who has served her country and now serves her hometown communities of Burbank and the San Fernando Valley, she defines what it means to be a public servant. She is a tireless advocate and a true champion for youth, education, LGBTQ rights, and environmental justice, always fighting for those whose voices are too often unheard. I look forward to working with her on these important issues on behalf of Californians."
This announcement comes on the heels of the Steyer campaign’s new TV and radio ad featuring Los Angeles Assemblymember Isaac Bryan, part of a broader effort to expand the campaign’s reach and engagement.
Steyer has also earned the endorsement of the California Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO; AFSCME 3299, the largest union representing University of California employees; and the California Federation of Teachers just last week. Senator Caroline Menjivar joins a long list of supporters Steyer has earned since the launch of his campaign, including United Domestic Workers, the California School Employees Association, and the California Nurses Association, as well as former State Senate leader and Speaker of the California State Assembly Toni Atkins, Congressman Ro Khanna, Senator Henry Stern, and Assemblymembers Mia Bonta, Isaac Bryan, Gregg Hart, Ash Kalra, Alex Lee, Chris Ward, and Rick Chavez Zbur.
