SEIU California, representing over 700,000 nurses, janitors, caregivers and other workers across the state, backs Tom Steyer for governor as momentum continues to grow across California.
SAN FRANCISCO – Today, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Tom Steyer received the endorsement of SEIU California. The powerhouse labor union sets statewide priorities and exercises its political power to increase economic fairness for working people, ensure high quality services and create a well-funded, equitable, just and prosperous California.
“I am deeply honored to have the endorsement of SEIU California, an organization that has spent decades standing up for working people,” Steyer said. “As Governor, I will always put working people ahead of corporate profits and ensure that California’s economy works for the people who build it. That is exactly why powerful corporate interests are spending millions to try to defeat this campaign. They know we are committed to changing the status quo and putting working families first. Together, with the strength of organized labor and communities across this state, we will win and we will build a California that works for everyone.”
SEIU California joins the long list of labour unions who have endorsed Steyer’s progressive agenda, including AFSCME 3299, California Federation of Teachers (CFT), California Labor Federation AFL-CIO, California Nurses Association (CNA), California School Employees Association (CSEA), California Teachers Association (CTA), International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts of the United States, Its Territories and Canada (IATSE), International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers Local 21 (IFPTE Local 21), United Domestic Workers (UDW) and UNITE HERE.
