Ro Khanna, Alex Lee: Becerra is “Beholden” to Special Interests
Say Steyer is the progressive choice as corporate power tries to buy the race
CALIFORNIA — On a press call today, Congressman Ro Khanna and Assembly Member Alex Lee made clear Tom Steyer is the only viable progressive in the race, while the other candidates are “completely propped up by big tech, by fossil fuel,” and corporations.
Khanna praised Steyer for being ready to aggressively take on special interests in the fight to bringing prices down:
“He is clearly the progressive choice in the race, he's clearly the choice for those who care about bringing prices down, he's clearly the choice of those who want change and taking on the special interests in Sacramento.”
“The reason I believe Steyer will prevail is that people will see he's the one who's saying, tax the billionaires, he's the one who's not getting Chevron money, he's the one who's not getting PG&E money, he's the one who's not beholden to special interests, he's the one who's for single-payer.”
Lee called out Becerra for being backed by – and beholden to – the special interests trying to rig the system against Californians:
“Candidates like Xavier Becerra and Matt Mahan, they are completely propped up by big tech, by fossil fuel, by all these corporations [...] they are propped up by the personal wealth of other billionaires.”
“Corporations hold way too much power. They literally can prop up a candidate who, before, was polling in single digits, and then they dump millions and millions and millions of dollars to prop them up. That is not a fair system.”
“Tom is really fighting fire with fire. His ability to shoot back and fight back corporate powers is really what freaks them out so much.”
