Representative Lateefah Simon Endorses Tom Steyer for California Governor
Prominent Community Leader and Progressive Voice Backs Steyer’s Campaign for Governor
SAN FRANCISCO – Today, Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Tom Steyer received the endorsement of Representative Lateefah Simon (CA-12), Vice Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and a member of the Congressional Black Caucus and the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus. Simon represents cities and towns in California’s East Bay – including Oakland and Berkeley – and is a longtime progressive organizer and former MacArthur “genius grant” recipient.
“I have known Tom’s work for years, not just during campaign cycles. He has used his own resources to take on the fossil fuel industry, to fund climate justice in the communities that needed it the most, and to stand with working people,” Simon said.
“As governor, Tom will build housing at the scale this crisis demands and make public education affordable so young people in California can build their futures here. He will stand against the cruel and unconstitutional deportation machine tearing through our neighborhoods. He understands that the corporations driving up our rent, our energy prices, and our grocery bills are organized and unafraid, and he is prepared to meet them with the same. He knows the governor’s office must be accessible to the communities fighting for their survival.”
“The fight for social justice is about ensuring every Californian, no matter their zip code, background, or income, has the freedom to thrive and the opportunity to be heard,” Steyer said. “I am deeply honored to have the support of Representative Simon. Her lifelong commitment to justice and equity has transformed communities across our state. Her leadership reflects the urgency and moral clarity this moment demands. I am proud to stand with her as we work to build a more just, inclusive, and sustainable future for every Californian.”
Representative Lateefah Simon joins a long list of elected officials, grassroots organizers, and unions who stand with Steyer. See the full list of endorsers here.
