NY Magazine: “Three-Way Fight” in the CA Governor’s Race
CALIFORNIA – A new New York Magazine piece published today confirmed that Californians have a real choice in this election, as the threat of a Republican lock-out has all but disappeared and the race for California Governor is now between a Republican, a corporate Democrat, and a progressive Democrat.
“Between Hilton’s big lead over Bianco and the relatively high number of Republicans voting early, the odds of Bianco finishing in the top two and producing a GOP lockout are definitely fading,” wrote columnist Ed Kilgore. “That suggests we’re in a three-way race for the two general election spots with Hilton, Becerra, and Steyer still in the running.”
Public polling confirms that this race is far from locked, with Democrats predicted to cast last-minute ballots, according to the Los Angeles Times.
This week, Steyer began his closing argument to voters, highlighting the contrast between corporate-backed Becerra who stands for the status quo, and Tom Steyer, who stands for change and will fight for working people.
“Democrats have a real choice: corporate-backed Becerra, who answers to special interests, or Tom Steyer, who will hold them accountable and bring down costs for Californians," said Steyer for Governor spokesperson Kevin Liao. “With the majority of ballots still uncast, voters have time to do their homework – and the more they learn, the clearer that choice becomes."
