NEW VIDEO: 50 Million Reasons Corporations Are Afraid of Tom Steyer
"If the corporations that are making this state more expensive don't like me, that means they're scared I'm going to take them on."
CALIFORNIA — The Steyer for Governor campaign released a new video today breaking down the flood of $50 million in corporate special interest spending to boost Becerra and against Tom Steyer, who has promised to take on powerful corporate interests to lower prices for working Californians.
From Big Oil giants like Chevron to utility monopolies like PG&E to health insurance lobbies fighting against single-payer healthcare, the influx of tens of millions of dollars during the final stretch makes clear: Tom Steyer is a threat to their profits. And Xavier Becerra, who the same corporate special interests are backing, is not.

Right now, corporate special interests are spending nearly $50 million bucks to stop me.
It's not an accident, it's a tell.
If the corporations that are making this state more expensive don't like me, that means they're scared I'm going to take them on.
And you want to know something, they're right.
Here's who's spending against me.
Chevron and Big Oil just dumped another $500,000 into the race this week to back Becerra.
The California Medical Association, the most powerful anti-single payer lobby group, is spending $1.3 million against me.
The realtors and Airbnb, who don't want me building homes that people can afford, and therefore they lose their job, are spending $4 million dollars against me.
META dropped $950,000 for Becerra right after laying off 10% of their workforce, which is 8,000 people they fired.
And PG&E, of the electric monopolies that are keeping electric bills in this state sky high, they're spending against me because they know I'm gonna break their monopoly power.
If the people who are making California too expensive for working Californians are supporting Becerra and doing everything they can to stop me, that tells you everything you need to know.
I'm going to take them on, and he sure as heck won't.
The choice is simple: a governor takes their money and takes their calls or me.
Game on.
So who’s spending, and why?
- Headed into Memorial Day Weekend where gas prices hit a high of $6 a gallon, Chevron dumped another $500,000 to back their hand-picked candidate: Xavier Becerra.
- California Medical Association — the leading opponent of single payer healthcare in the state — has spent $1.3 million to stop Steyer.
- The California Association of Realtors and Airbnb are spending $4 million to protect the housing status quo, block affordable housing, and continue profiting off California’s housing shortage.
- Meta laid off 10 percent of their workforce and then wrote a $950,000 check to back Becerra.
- PG&E and California's utility monopolies know a Steyer administration would threaten their grip on power and jacking up electricity bills — and that’s why they’ve spent $13.6 million to stop him.
