SAN FRANCISCO – Democratic candidate Tom Steyer is the clear leader in the California governor’s race, according to a new poll conducted on behalf of KGTV News 10 and The San Diego Union-Tribune, which shows him leading the field with 21 percent statewide. Voters overwhelmingly cited the cost of living as the top issue facing Californians, reinforcing the urgency and resonance of Steyer's progressive, cost-focused messaging.
“This poll reflects what we’re seeing on the ground up and down California: that the more people learn about Tom, the more excited they are to vote for him,” Spokesperson Heather Hargreaves said. “We’re excited to continue meeting with Californians and building on this momentum as we enter the final weeks before early voting begins.”
In the past week, Steyer gained a surge of support from elected officials including: U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, U.S. Representative Jared Huffman, Assemblymembers Tasha Boerner, Nick Schultz, Sharon Quirk-Silva, Cory Jackson, Steve Bennett, and State Senator Lola Smallwood-Cuevas.
Steyer is committed to lowering costs for working Californians by building one million homes, breaking up utility monopoly power to lower electric bills, delivering single-payer health care, and closing tax loopholes for corporations and billionaires.
