SAN FRANCISCO – Today, Tom Steyer’s gubernatorial campaign released its newest television ad, “Hot Mic.” The ad depicts the candidate and climate advocate between takes on an ad shoot, responding to a staffer asking about the real motivation behind his run for office. Steyer, unaware he is being recorded, answers without hesitation: to fight for the working families who can no longer afford to live in California.

Steyer’s campaign is focused on lowering the high cost of living in California, improving public education, and reducing the influence of corporate interests in politics. His platform is centered on funding public education by making corporations and billionaires pay their fair share, launching a historic effort to build affordable housing and lower utility costs, and banning corporate PAC money to ensure the government is accountable to working people.

TOM STEYER: Look, everybody needs an affordable place to live. That's like, you need that.
You cannot have a successful society without great education for your kids.
You can't do it.
And honestly, I go crazy on the monopolists and the people who are ripping us off.
So, if you want to know the truth, if I really didn't think that, I definitely wouldn't do this.
