NEW AD: Steyer Airs “Team California” Ahead of Olympics
SAN FRANCISCO — Today, Tom Steyer’s campaign for governor released a new ad, “Team California,” which will air during the Olympic’s Opening Ceremony. The ad celebrates California, a state founded by the “go-getters” that refuses “to be pushed around,” and a place “where we’re only successful when we’re all successful.”

Steyer’s own California story began when he moved to the state to found a hedge fund, which became one of the most successful in the world. He then walked away from the business in 2012 in order to give back to the state that had given him so much. Steyer has pledged to give away more than half of his fortune in his lifetime and has led three winning ballot measure campaigns to deliver billions to health care and education programs without Californians paying a cent.
Steyer has also been active in fighting back against Donald Trump’s efforts to punish California. In 2017, Steyer founded the “Need to Impeach” campaign and, last year, he supported the passage of Prop 50.
The ad caps a big week for Steyer, in which he received the endorsements of the California Nurses Association, Assemblymember Rick Chavez Zbur, and Assemblymember Alex Lee. Polls show Steyer steadily gaining momentum since his entry in November.
Below is the transcript for “Team California.”
Sweet California.
Built by the go-getters, the pioneers, the brave.
To make this big, beautiful, crazy place, we call home.
A home that’s made us the strongest, most powerful state in the union.
Where no one gets to push us around, rip us off, or hold us back.
Because we’re only successful, when we’re all successful.
California.
It’s a team sport.
