Letter from Steyer for Governor Campaign Manager to Supporters
SAN FRANCISCO — The following letter was sent from Steyer for Governor Campaign Manager Heather Hargreaves to campaign supporters this morning:
Dear Friend,
I’m writing to give you an update on where things stand as we await results: there’s still a lot that remains to be seen and we’re going to give democracy time to work.
County election officials are still counting ballots and don’t expect to know how many people voted in total until tomorrow, when the county elections offices are required to report the number of ballots they still have to validate and count.
And, to be clear, that means that when you see updates from the news about the percentage of ballots that have been counted so far – that percentage is based on an estimate of the number of Californians who voted. The actual number of voters could be different.
The most important thing you can do while we wait is to visit the state’s ballot tracker and verify that your ballot has been accepted.
I also want to say thank you. Whether you knocked on doors, made calls, sent texts, posted your support on social media, or talked to your friends and family about voting for Tom – your work and your commitment made a real impact on this race and on our state.
This campaign has already accomplished so much. As Tom said in his speech last night, “We’ve scared the hell out of the corporate interests used to getting their way. We exposed the fact that their power depends on a system that is fundamentally corrupt. We showed, with clarity and conviction, that we do not have to accept the system they’ve built as inevitable. We proved something FDR said almost a century ago: ‘that Government by organized money is just as dangerous as Government by organized mob.’ And we showed that a better California is possible – and that we know what it looks like, and that we know how we’ll get there together, day by day, vote by vote."
Thank you, team. We’ll be sure to report back when we know more.
