SAN FRANCISCO – Democratic gubernatorial candidate Tom Steyer received the endorsement of International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE) Local 21, representing 11,000 engineers, architects, planners, healthcare professionals, librarians, epidemiologists, accountants, auditors, computer programmers, dispatchers, chemists, building, housing and fire inspectors and advisors, managerial and administrative employees and more working for Bay Area cities, counties, school districts, and water districts.
“We deserve better than the status quo in California, and we deserve a governor who respects the excellent public services we provide and understands how we fund them,” President of IFPTE Bianca Polovina said. “Steyer is the strongest candidate on the issues that impact our members: affordable healthcare, energy, and housing. And he isn’t afraid to take on corporations to do it.”
“Working people have built California and it is time they share in its prosperity,” Steyer said. “The strength of this state comes from the people who do the work every day to keep our communities running and our economy moving forward. I am grateful for the endorsement of IFPTE Local 21 and its members, and I am committed to advancing fair wages, strong worker protections, and broader economic opportunity so that working people can share fully in the success they help create.”
IFPTE Local 21 joins a long list of unions, grassroots organizers, and elected officials who stand with Steyer and his progressive vision for a California that working Californians can afford. See the full list of endorsers here.
