ICYMI: Joe Biden Declines to Endorse Xavier Becerra
The people who know Becerra best keep passing – Biden joins a wave of former colleagues who witnessed Becerra’s failures first-hand and are sitting it out
SAN FRANCISCO — The people who know Xavier Becerra best and worked closest with him continue to forgo endorsing him, as the New York Times reported President Joe Biden will not be endorsing Becerra in his bid for governor, joining Vice President Kamala Harris, Alejandro Myorkas and dozens of Becerra’s former administration colleagues.
Becerra’s team is spinning this hard, claiming Biden “likes Xavier” – according to a top Becerra supporter and Airbnb executive Ron Klain, whose employer has dumped $1 million to boost Becerra to do their bidding.
However, Becerra’s low favor among Biden and his former colleagues has been well-documented. President Biden "tore into" him during meetings for being ill-prepared and White House officials, including Susan Rice, privately referred to him as an “idiot.”
"Becerra's own colleagues know he doesn't have what it takes, and Ron Klain's million-dollar spin can't change that," said Steyer for Governor spokesperson Danni Wang. "California cannot afford a governor who goes absent – families need someone who will show up and fight to bring costs down."
Biden’s non-endorsement comes following a wave of Becerra’s former colleagues who have come forward recently, calling him “not effective" and “asleep at the wheel” during major crises. As HHS Secretary, Becerra lost track of 85,000 children and removed protections that left them vulnerable to trafficking and exploitation. Becerra was late, absent, or ignorant, causing major missteps for COVID, monkeypox, and bird flu.
Corporate special interests – including Chevron, Meta, Uber, and PG&E – have dumped nearly $50 million to keep Tom Steyer from holding them accountable, and to support Xavier Becerra as their champion.
