Former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich Backs Tom Steyer
Progressive leaders consolidate behind Steyer campaign
BERKELEY, CA — Today, former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich endorsed Tom Steyer for governor ahead of the June 2 primary. In a post on Substack, Secretary Reich applauds Steyer’s commitment to working people and taking in corporate special interests to lower costs.
As Secretary Reich writes, “Like most voters I know in California, I’ve been holding onto my ballot … But now it’s time to commit.” “He adds, “We need progressive change, not more of the same. Tom Steyer is the only viable candidate to deliver that change in Sacramento”
In a statement, Steyer commended Reich’s support.
“For decades, Secretary Reich has been a fierce advocate for working people,” Steyer said. “I am honored to have his support to bring our progressive coalition together down the home stretch. Californians cannot afford a candidate like Xavier Becerra who caters to corporate interests.”
Steyer has won the endorsement of a wide range of progressive leaders, including Congressman Ro Khanna, Jane Fonda, Our Revolution, Smart Justice, and Courage California. Steyer is also endorsed by a wide range of labor unions, including the California Teachers Association, the California Nurses Association, SEIU, and many others.
As Governor, Steyer has committed to a bold progressive agenda, including delivering single-payer healthcare, raising taxes on billionaires and corporations to fund education, healthcare, and local services, and making polluters pay. He is also the only candidate with a plant to directly tax Big Tech to ensure workers are not left behind in the AI boom.
