Chevron, Meta, and Uber – Oh, My! Nearly $50 Million in Special Interest Money Now Behind Becerra
Steyer’s fighting for working people, while Xavier Becerra fights for the billionaires and corporate interests backing him
SAN FRANCISCO — For those keeping score at home, corporate special interests have dumped nearly $50 million to keep Tom Steyer from holding them accountable, and to support Xavier Becerra as their champion.
Fresh corporate money came in this week to support Becerra and tear down Steyer from Chevron, Meta, Uber, PG&E, McDonalds, and even the predatory dialysis center, DaVita – all betting on Becerra to do their bidding in Sacramento.
"Californians are drowning in costs – at the grocery store, at the gas pump, on their utility bills – because corporate interests continue to rip them off," said Steyer for Governor spokesperson Danni Wang. "Tom has a real plan to bring those costs down, and the special interests know it. That's why they’re bankrolling Becerra."
Special interests lining up to support Becerra include:
- The healthcare industry to oppose single payer
- Chevron and Big Oil to keep gas prices high and increase oil drilling
- Private ambulance companies to rip patients off
- Big Tech laying off workers to protect their profits
This contrast is being made clear in new billboards going up around the state, underscoring that Steyer is the only one with concrete plans to take on the special interests and bring down costs.
