California Outlets Sing Tao Daily, Monterey County Now, and San Francisco Bay Guardian Line Up Behind Tom Steyer
Editorial Boards recommend Steyer for Governor, citing someone who can take on the entrenched interests to lower costs for Californians
SAN FRANCISCO – This week, Democratic gubernatorial candidate and climate advocate Tom Steyer received endorsements from respected California publications: Sing Tao Daily, Monterey County Now and San Francisco Bay Guardian, reflecting Steyer’s resonating message of lowering costs for working Californians.
Monterey County Now:
“Governing California requires someone willing to take on entrenched interests at this critical moment … That person is Tom Steyer. Steyer is the clearest anti-Trump voice in this race, and he means it… What seals it is who’s spending money to stop him. PG&E pumped nearly $10 million into an anti-Steyer PAC, which funneled it into a second PAC backed by the real estate and the construction industry. Two layers of corporate money, one goal: keeping Steyer out of the governor’s office. Their ads attack him for proposing commercial landlords pay property taxes on what their properties are actually worth today. Oil companies, facing his proposed windfall profits tax and his track record to fight against climate change, are part of the same anti-Steyer coalition. These are the industries that are committed to being the masters of Sacramento. When they line up against you, you’re clearly doing something right.”
San Francisco Bay Guardian:
“He is the only major candidate talking seriously about economic inequality and taxing the rich. Those two issues form the basis of the existential threats facing humanity, and it’s encouraging to see a candidate for governor who recognizes that. He says he wants to reform Prop. 13 by eliminating the loophole that lets big investors like Donald Trump cheat local governments out of critical revenue. He also says he supports single-payer health care in California… None of the other major candidates are even talking about these issues. Besides, PG&E is spending $10 million to defeat him. We can’t think of a better reason to support a candidate.”
Sing Tao Daily, which endorsed Tom Steyer today, is one of the oldest papers serving the Chinese-speaking community in the San Francisco Bay Area.
