As Campaign Momentum Grows, Assemblymember Chris Ward Endorses Steyer for Governor
SAN FRANCISCO — Democratic gubernatorial candidate Tom Steyer today announced the endorsement of Assemblymember Chris Ward — an influential champion of progressive values and a leader on housing affordability and environmental sustainability. Ward joins a growing list of progressive leaders and grassroots supporters coalescing around Steyer’s vision for a more affordable and inclusive California.
"I’m endorsing Tom Steyer because he will focus on the job responsibilities instead of the image and has a strong vision for a better future that we share,” Ward said. “Tom is passionate about solving problems and manages a team well to meet objectives. He understands that changing status quo economic structures to benefit working Californians, tackling our housing and cost-of-living affordability crisis, and leaving no one behind in our work are top priorities. He also uniquely brings critical attention and practical expertise to an issue the next Governor can directly control: reforming the Public Utilities Commission to deliver meaningful utility rate reform through a climate-focused approach — one that drives new investment in green energy, encourages public power, and lowers energy costs. And importantly, he can’t be bought. Across the board: on substance, on style, and on a commitment to public service — Tom Steyer is the right choice."
“Having the support of Assemblymember Chris Ward is an honor,” Steyer said. “He has dedicated his career to fighting for working families, protecting our environment, and advancing equity across California. With his leadership and partnership, I am more determined than ever to tackle the state’s affordability crisis, hold powerful interests accountable, and build a California that works for working families.”
These announcements are added to the long list of endorsements Steyer has earned since the launch of his campaign, including United Domestic Workers, the 250,000-member-strong home care and family child care providers, California School Employees Association, the 100,000-member-strong California Nurses Association, as well as Congressman Ro Khanna, Senator Henry Stern, Legislative Progressive Caucus Chair Assemblymember Alex Lee, and Progressive Caucus Assemblymembers Isaac Bryan, Gregg Hart, Ash Kalra, and Rick Zbur.
