425 Days on the Campaign, 36 Years in Politics, Zero Plans: Becerra's Final Hours
“I’m still very uncertain what Becerra’s plan is besides becoming governor of California”
CALIFORNIA – In the final hours of this race, Xavier Becerra can’t shake the reputation that’s followed him his entire career: a man seeking title after title, but with little substance behind those ambitions.
The Economist podcast today offered a scathing assessment of Becerra’s lack of plans and pattern of incompetence throughout his career:
James Bennett, Senior Editor referred to Becerra as a “lightweight” and “not effective” throughout his career in Congress, and highlighted his “performative” approach to accountability while attorney general.
“I’m still very uncertain what Becerra’s plan is besides becoming governor of California,” said Economist West Coast correspondent Aryn Braun. “He consistently dodges giving specifics on tackling affordability, tackling the housing shortage.”
This podcast underscores the same theme in a scathing Politico report out today, which referred to Becerra’s “unformed plans” and that he is “light on policy specifics and ideological beliefs.”
But Becerra’s lack of substance is nothing new – Becerra has struggled throughout his campaign to answer tough questions – unveiled a shell of a housing plan the night before a major candidate policy forum, been bashed for his lack of substance in his plan to support the entertainment industry, and his answer on AI policy sounds like slop drafted by ChatGPT.
“Xavier Becerra has spent 36 years as a career politician, announced his bid for governor 425 days ago and he still can’t name a real thing he’d do to bring down costs for Californians.” said Steyer for Governor spokesperson Sepi Esfahlani. “Voters need a leader with a plan to tackle the state’s affordability crisis and it’s clear that Xavier Becerra is not up for the role.”
Election Day is tomorrow.
