Tom is proud to serve Californians as Chief Advisor to the Governor on Business and Jobs Recovery and as Chair of the Governor's business and jobs recovery task force.
Together with Governor Newsom and his team, Tom is working to develop a fair, green, and forward-thinking economic strategy to help California recover as fast and as safely as possible from the COVID-19 induced recession.
This recovery plan will bring together the public and private sectors, outside experts, organized labor, environmental groups, activists and impacted constituency groups to develop an economic framework that works for all Californians, with an emphasis on those communities hardest hit by the pandemic — working families, communities of color, the unhoused, and low-income communities.
Health and Safety of Californians Comes First
As Governor Newsom has said from the beginning, the health and safety of Caifornians must always come first. The recovery process will work within Governor Newsom’s “reopening framework” to ensure that all Californians remain safe and healthy.
Getting Started Together
This will be an inclusive, comprehensive process, and the task force will reflect that. Tom will rely on experts, economists, data — and the real-life experiences of Californians from every corner of this state will be part of the outreach. If you are comfortable sharing, we want to know: How has this recession affected you or your family’s income, job, business, or livelihood?
Emphasis on Inclusive Economic Recovery
Under-resourced communities are being hit hardest by this pandemic, and California is no exception. A recovery plan should put them front and center. This will include every region of California, and the businesses, advocacy groups, NGOs, non-profits, and communities that help them thrive. Tom will be talking to and leaning on the advice of local community activists, leaders, and groups to present Governor Newsom with a plan that rebuilds California, emphasizes smart, green technologies and provides a model for just economic development for our country.
Importance of Transparency
Transparency is critical in ensuring the trust of the people and communities of California. Tom will have weekly update meetings with Governor Newsom and his administration, present public updates every 30 days, hold public listening sessions, and disclose any public dollars used for this effort.
