GiveGreen Smashes Previous Record, Raises $26 Million for Biden and Down-Ballot Climate Candidates

(July 24) –– Today, LCV Victory Fund, the NRDC Action Fund PAC, and NextGen America announced that GiveGreen donors have contributed $26 million for Vice President Biden and federal and state pro-climate candidates across the country, surpassing the the total amount raised through the program during the 2018 political cycle.

Last year, GiveGreen created the 2020 Climate Unity Fund to ensure the eventual Democratic presidential nominee would have a groundswell of financial support from the climate community after securing the nomination. Now, with less than 4 months to go before election day, GiveGreen is continuing to connect climate donors with pro-climate candidates to help demonstrate strong support for bold climate action. This week, GiveGreen hosted a fundraiser for Biden with actress and climate activist Julia Louis-Dreyfus that raised seven figures for the Biden Victory Fund.

“Our country’s deep history of racial, economic and environmental injustice has been laid bare, and we need leaders up and down the ballot who can transform our systems and help our nation turn the page on Trump’s disastrous presidency,” said NextGen America Founder Tom Steyer. “I co-founded GiveGreen because we need to empower and engage the climate community to help elect forward-thinking leaders. With Joe Biden in the White House and climate champions in the House and Senate, we can unite our country to rebuild and safely reopen our economy, combat the climate crisis, and build towards solutions that are just, green, and equitable.”

“The disproportionate health and economic impacts of the COVID crisis, police violence, and toxic pollution are a result of systemic racism in our country. There is so much work that needs to be done to achieve racial and environmental justice for all. Electing a new president this November is critically important, but we also need to elect pro-environment candidates up and down the ballot. GiveGreen donors are committed to helping defeat Donald Trump and electing Joe Biden, winning a pro-environment majority in the Senate, expanding the House majority and winning in gubernatorial  and state legislative races across the country so that we can achieve a just and equitable transition to a 100% clean energy future,” said Gene Karpinski, president of LCV Victory Fund.

“This is the most important U.S. election in modern history–and GiveGreen donors understand what’s at stake. When we cast our ballots this November, we will be choosing what we stand for as a nation. We need leaders like Joe Biden who will rebuild us stronger, and give our children a healthier, fairer and more just future,” said Gina McCarthy, president and CEO of the NRDC Action Fund.
