On Friday, July 17, America lost a hero with the passing of Congressman John Lewis — a leading figure for doing what’s right, a beacon for justice, and the truest voice of conscience in the nation.
To honor his fight, his ideals, and his life, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell must immediately introduce the Voting Rights Advancement Act to the Senate floor. This bill ensures that people’s voices are heard and it protects the voting rights of all Americans — a fight that Rep. Lewis carried forward from the beginning.
Our country has failed to live up to its promise of “equality for all” since its founding, and this proposed legislation is long overdue to move us toward a more justice-centered society. Sen. McConnell must do his job, move forward with this bill, and rename it the Rep. John Lewis Voting Rights Act of 2020.
